Ainol Novo 7 Aurora Updated

Well I am afraid I am not getting one. The first batch had faulty screens and my UK seller rightly returned them rather than send on duffers. He contacted me and said that Ainol can’t get reliable IPS screens from their suppliers so for the foreseeable future there are no Auroras available.
I have heard similar things elsewhere so he is telling the truth.
So I am back on the hunt for my digital future, I need a new phone and tablet.

Zoostorm PCs who knew?

Went round to my good mate John F’s yesterday to set-up his new PC. Now one piece of kit that I always pack is PC Decrappifier. It’s a fact of life that if you buy a PC these days you will get some crap installed on their by default. Now I’ve had no experience of Zoostorm before so I assumed the worst. John bought a i5-2310 with 6gb ram, 500GB HDD in a small tower case, inc Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Thanks to the videos of MrTasselhoff I have ordered myself an Ainol Novo 7 Aurora. I have been swithering about the Samsung Galaxy Note Vs S II for ages. As I have wanted a sub 9″ tablet for ages and I need a new phone. At the price the Aurora is I can easily afford a new Phone as well.
However the Aurora isn’t just cheap. There are plenty of cheap and nasty Android tablets on the market.

We need to talk. I do love your DVD, Game and Blu-Ray service it is great.
However your streaming service whilst a nice extra does not look like a winner against a truly competitive alternative. If you don’t get the quality up and the variety up you may find one year a mass exodus to NetFlix.
Now I really like your service at the moment so please consider these suggestions :

Echostar back recording

well my Echostar started failing to record series link shows. First it disabled series link altogether. Then I switch it off and then on. It then showed the series link icon, but then failed to record beyond the first recording.
I have tried: Factory Reset, reinitialising the drive and a firmware update.
I’ve lost all of my recordings and it’s no better.
I am less than impressed with Echostar, compared to PS3 PlayTV and even my mates sluggish TIVO this thing is slow.

Galaxy Note Impressions

I wandered into town today to see the Samsung Galaxy Note in the ‘flesh’. I have been intrigued by the Note for some time. Smartphones have reached a point where the phone aspect is just a small percentage of the value of the device. A good smartphone is your; walkman, video player, sat nav, portable computer, messenging device and phone. The Note takes this one more step and extends/adds in notebook and tablet.

Set Top Boxes UI Backwater

I just picked up a new set top box. It’s the Echostar HDS-600RS. In terms of features the box is amazing and compared to it’s conventional peers it is pretty good and responsive. However I am not used to normal set top boxes anymore.
For over 2 years I’ve been running PlayTV for my PS3. I unfortunately live in a low signal area and years after launch no HD or Sat HD version is on it’s way.

Me on 3D Games

I think 3D gaming has it’s place, much like with films. But to me both are ‘niche’ versions of their media. Just like everything shouldn’t be Move or everything shouldn’t be played through a guitar controller.
The current consoles just about do 720p at 30fps in mainline games. We can’t even do 1080p 60fps in all but the rarest games. Adding the 3D gimmick to games makes them worse in most cases, when the power on the console isn’t doubled to compensate.

I use Opera at home. It doesn’t work so great in our corporate network at work, but lovely at home.
However there are two services I like to use; Zootool and Amazon Universal Wish List.
Rather than just drag the button to the side, I copy the link text and use QuHno’s Buttonator to make Opera integrated buttons. In the screenshot above I use the Star for Zootool Lasso and the Plus Sign for Amazon.
